Scientific research group for transdisciplinary research and application (BioRes&App), which includes scientists and other staff from Split’s Faculty of Science (PMF) and their partners from other institutions in Croatia and around the world, begun implementing a scientific research program based on Botanical Garden on Marjan’s potentials.
It is a young team from PMF, and we believe they will achieve all their plans, especially since they have advisors Prof. Mile Dželalija Ph.D. and Assoc. Prof. Jadranka Šepić Ph.D,.
They are also supported by Lidija Zidić, head gardener and their host at the Botanical Garden.
Global Recognition
The BioRes&App group brings together experts from a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines, including chemistry, physics, geophysics, biology, mathematics, biomedicine, biotechnology, and agriculture, as well as experts from the economy. Among them are, besides leader Marina Kranjac and her advisors, also assoc. prof. Perica Bošković Ph.D., assoc. prof. Mija Marinković Ph.D., Irena Dukić Ph.D., Ivana Popović, M.Sc. Biology, assoc. prof. Gordan Radobolja Ph.D., Krešimir Ruić Ph.D., assoc. prof. Željka Sanader Maršić Ph.D., and assoc. prof. Marin Vojković Ph.D.
Practical Example
BioRes&App group does not neglect education, workshops, or popularizing science. So, they will organize attractive activities for the broader public, such as workshops on obtaining essential oils, educational workshops dedicated to creating, setting up and maintaining hotels for beneficial insects, workshops on sensory evaluation of honey and familiarizing consumers with types of unifloral honey, meteorological-biological workshops "Little Meteorologists on Marjan," and other similar activities. They also plan to set up a meteorological station in the Botanical Garden, which will be used for research in biometeorology and agrometeorology.
Structure of Activities Through Five Work Packages
All planned activities of the BioRes&App Group, aimed at addressing scientific challenges relevant to the broader community, are structured into five transdisciplinary work packages (TWP):
TWP-1: Researching biodiversity and green extraction methods, led by assoc. prof. Marina Kranjac Ph.D.
TWP-2: Climate change, sustainability, and ecosystem pollution monitoring, led by Krešimir Ruić Ph.D.
TWP-3: Biochemical research and discovery of bioactive potential, led by assoc. prof. Mija Marinković Ph.D.
TWP-4: Project coordination and quality assurance of the BioRes&App group, led by assoc. prof. Gordan Radobolja Ph.D.
TWP-5: Education, workshops, and science popularization, led by assoc. prof. Marin Vojković Ph.D.
