The University of Split hosted two important international events in the field of higher education and mobility from 15 to 19 April 2026 - the SEA-EU Mobility Expert Group meeting and the Erasmus Generation Meeting (EGM), the largest student-led conference in Europe.
Organised by the International Relations Office and the SEA-EU Office, a physical meeting of the SEA-EU Mobility Expert Group was held from 15 to 17 April, bringing together representatives of partner institutions within the SEA-EU Alliance. The aim of the meeting was to analyse past activities, exchange good practices, and define further steps in the field of mobility. Discussions focused on improving reporting on key mobility indicators (KPIs), with an emphasis on structuring data into a comprehensive report for the period 2023-2026, as well as on the importance of harmonised data collection among partners. Particular attention was given to challenges in implementing mobility, including application procedures, inter-institutional communication, and the clear definition of contact points, with concrete solutions proposed to enhance efficiency and coordination. Activities of subgroups were also presented, including the development of a joint Welcome Handbook for hosting students and staff, the organisation of international weeks, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the quality of student and staff mobility. The “SEA-EU Next” project was also presented, with a focus on the development of the innovative MCTS concept (Mobility Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) - a system for recognising mobility for students as well as academic and non-academic staff.
As part of the programme, a workshop titled Improving Erasmus+ Student Mobility Recognition was held and led by Johannes Gehringer, Policy Officer at the Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission (DG EAC). The workshop was attended by Erasmus coordinators from the University of Split, members of the SEA-EU Mobility Expert Group, and representatives of Croatian higher education institutions participating in the Erasmus Generation Meeting. It provided insight into the development of initiatives within the new Erasmus+ programme period 2028-2034, with a particular focus on the automatic recognition of learning outcomes acquired during student mobility periods abroad.
Parallel to the SEA-EU Mobility Expert Group meeting, the Erasmus Generation Meeting (EGM) 2026 took place in Split from 16 to 19 April. As the largest student-led conference in Europe, it gathered more than 1,400 participants from over 45 countries, turning Split into a student hub of Europe during those days. This year’s EGM theme was “Port of Mobility, Gateway to Skills”, and the event was organised by the student association ESN Split under the coordination of ESN Croatia, in cooperation with ESN International and the European Commission. The University of Split supported the organisers as a gold sponsor.
On behalf of the University of Split and its Rector, Prof. Dr. Dragan Ljutić, Prof. Dr. Zoran Đogaš, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Cooperation with the Local Community, addressed students and distinguished guests at the official opening ceremony held in the Gripe hall and welcomed them to the city.
Under the slogan Pomalo (Take it easy, no rush), the EGM programme featured a series of panels, sessions, workshops, and discussions focused on mobility, skills development, and the future of education. Events such as the Flag Parade and the EGM EXPO further enriched participants’ experience and enabled connections between students and institutions from across Europe. The social programme was organised in strong synergy with the local community, showcasing Croatian tradition, higher education, and student life.
The synergy between these two events enabled stronger connections between institutional representatives and students. Members of the SEA-EU Mobility Expert Group also had the opportunity to participate in selected activities of the Erasmus Generation Meeting, further strengthening dialogue and the exchange of experiences.
By hosting these events, the University of Split once again confirmed its important role within the SEA-EU Alliance and further positioned itself as a relevant European hub for mobility, international cooperation, and the development of higher education.
